We believe thriving creeks build thriving communities.
In 1989 a group of nature enthusiasts formed Putah Creek Council as a forum to learn about our nature nearby. After a prolonged drought and heavy water diversions kills hundreds of fish, Putah Creek Council led and won a landmark law suit to legally secure flowing water year-round.
Even with legal protections in place, our work is far from over: the most enduring protection for Putah Creek comes from a heart-felt connection to the creek, and a community willing to act on its behalf. People who spend time on Putah Creek discover they don't have to travel great distances to experience a little bit of wildness: Putah Creek is nature nearby.
