Native Plant Nursery Event- Morning

Please join us for a nice morning with other like-minded people who are interested in native plants and caring for our watershed. Nursery tasks vary from event to event but typically include transplanting, weeding, watering, trimming, and other tasks as necessary.

Putah Creek Council, in partnership with Lower Putah Creek Coordinating Committee, grows a variety of native plants for use in our habitat enhancement project sites throughout the Putah Creek watershed.

All plants in the nursery are propagated from seeds and cuttings taken from plants growing in the Putah-Cache basin. All plants are propagated, transplanted, weeded, and otherwise cared for by community volunteers - just like you! 

Nursery events are held at CALFIRE's Lewis Moran Reforestation Facility at 5800 Chiles Road in Davis.  Registration link and map with directions are below.

Why are we growing the plants?

During the rainy season, December - April, plants from the nursery will be planted along Putah Creek in hedgerows or mass plantings to create wildlife habitat, attract pollinators beneficial to agriculture, and improve water quality by preventing erosion and illegal vehicle trespass.

California Native Plants

The nursery inventory is vast and always changing, but a few of our favorite natives are toyon, coffeeberry, red, black, arroyo, and yellow willows, California wild rose, mugwort, box elder, Oregon ash, white alder, coyote brush, buttonwillow and mulefat. Nursery Rules

Volunteers age 14 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes. No running, no dogs. Chilled drinking water is provided in the potting shed, do not drink water from any tap or spigot.
