  UC Davis established the Riparian Reserve in 1983 to preserve creek side habitat on campus property for research, teaching and wildlife habitat protection. People have been visiting the Reserve for years for bird watching and picnicking.

The Reserve can be accessed from Hopkins Road or Old Davis Road. Cars can be parked along the edge of Old Davis Road near the levee gate or at Hopkins Road near the picnic grounds and fire ring. From there, the remainder of the Reserve can be accessed along the levees by foot.
