Nature Walk: Gender Identity Amongst the Birds, Bees, and Beasties of Lake Solano Park (new date!)

Registration is closed for this event
Saturday, November 11, 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM

Why do male and female geese look so similar, but male and female ducks have wildly different appearances? How did early ecologists explain the vast differences in Common Peafowl? What other creatures at Lake Solano Park have such odd couples?

Explore these head-scratchers and more on a morning walk with Lake Solano Docent George Cartter. Meet at the Nature Center at 9 AM to begin your stroll and find some surprising differences between males and females (and some who aren't quite either) of the Lake Solano Park flora and fauna. Loaner binoculars will be available.

This event is a great opportunity to explore a local park that has much to offer: boating, picnic areas, wildlife viewing, and multiple hiking trails. Enjoy a day of strolling along Putah Creek while learning about local ecology and appreciating the beauty of this region.

The tour will be appropriate for all ages; families and groups are welcome. Please prepare for the weather and variable conditions by bringing water, wearing sturdy shoes, and dressing in layers. Continue to enjoy the beautiful scenery by picnicking or renting a campsite for the weekend on a first-come, first-served basis.

Advance registration is recommended but not required. The day's activities are free, and parking is $6 per vehicle payable at the east entrance to the Park, on the day use side. For questions, call Karin Young at Putah Creek Council, 530-795-3006.
