CANCELLED - Watershed Wonders: Spawning Salmon in Putah Creek
Join U.C. Davis fisheries expert Dr. Peter Moyle and Rich Marovich, the Putah Creek Streamkeeper, on a VIP walking tour along Putah Creek near Winters in areas of the creek restored for salmon spawning and (hopefully!) to see migrating and spawning fall-run Chinook salmon. A picnic lunch will be served following the tour.
The hike leaders are Dr. Peter Moyle and Rich Marovich. Dr. Moyle is a California fisheries expert and has been an advisor on all aspects of Putah Creek since the earliest restoration efforts. Rich Marovich has led the efforts on Putah Creek restoration; he will point out examples of in-channel and riparian restoration projects.
Participants will rendezvous at the Rotary Park gazebo in Winters and carpool/caravan to the site. The trip will take place if there is a forecast of scattered showers or light rain, but it will be cancelled if steady, heavy rain is predicted. A confirmation email will be sent to all participants on Friday, November 17.
Wear: layered clothes appropriate for the weather conditions, sturdy hiking shoes, a hat, and sunscreen.
Bring: a full, refillable water bottle and trail snacks; walking poles if needed, camera, binoculars, wildflower and bird guidebooks, etc.
